Carmen Gutierrez

CARMEN GUTIERREZ is a New York born, Bay Area based acoustic musician & singer/songwriter. With a fusion of funky rhythmic guitar picking, folk-like story-tellin’ lyrics & a profoundly soulful voice, Gutierrez moves listeners to tears. Her sound is pure & raw talent, harnessing a vocal style that is both grounded & gutteral but it takes off becoming air-like;atherial. She shares her life experiences, personal stories of heart ache & empowerment, forever telling her story through her songs. CARMEN GUTIERREZ will prove to be one of the best singer/songwriters of our time.

Carmen will be performing live on Baghdad by the Bay.

Dizzy Balloon
“By its senior year, the band was mingling with the upper class of the local indie rock scene, landing gigs at venues such as Cafe du Nord and Slim’s, and becoming recognized as one of the Bay Area’s hottest up-and-coming bands.” -East Bay Express

Dizzy Balloon will be having a CD release party September 26th at Bottom of the Hill.

Si, Claro
Si, Claro is songs written and sung by Brian Sirgus. After playing drums for the last 12 years in Track Star, lowercase, still flyin’, et al. Brian decided to switch it up and take matters into his own hands. after writing and recording the first in the “series of serious songs” by himself, enlisted the help of friends (Wyatt from Aislers Set and Track Star and Markus Gorsch from love is all, the still flyin’ dudes, and others) to set out on recording the new batch of “serious songs”.

Si, Claro will be playing Bottom of the Hill on Sept 25th.

cal·low adj young or immature, and lacking the experience of life that comes with adulthood Synonyms: immature, naive, raw, youthful. Callow’s sound is definitely raw and youthful, but their thoughtful lyrics and jagged style are anything but immature and naive. Callow has been around for five years. They are: Tony Esterbrooks on drums, Tim Watson plays bass, and Gared Moses does the singing, initial song-writing and guitar.

BeatBeat Whisper
Beatbeat Whisper is the project of siblings Davyd and Ayla Nereo, begun in the hills of Sonoma County, now living in Oakland, California. Each an outstanding songwriter individually, the two combine their music with overlapping harmonies and widely varied instrumentation, exchanging electric and acoustic guitars in one song for kalimba and tambourine the next, and mandoline and piano to follow.

Little Teeth
“…. Up next we got Little Teeth from San Francisco. Theirs is folk pop that crashes and yelps out passionately and feels a little like Neutral Milk Hotel without ripping ’em off— or, really, jumping anybody’s game. Dannie’s vocals soar, crack, scream out, but always sound like she’s deeply feelin’ it, deeply into what’s she’s singing about and dead-ON synched to the immediacy of her band’s hiccupy, junkyarded American avant-something. You can find them on myspace. Try “Japanese Candy” first, which has a kind of broken-down desperation that gives me chills.” From Asthmatic Kitty Records “City Review”

Dame Satan
If Quazar had sounded anything like Dame Satan, I might be translating dispatches from Zeti Reticuli right now. Ever heard music that makes you desperately try to remember if you’d innocuously eaten a brownie earlier that could have been, ahem, herbally enhanced? Dame Satan’s music had that effect.

Dame Satan will be playing Bottom of the Hill on Sept 6th.

pale hoarse
“The lyrics tend toward darkness, Christian corruption, bitter childhoods and love gone wrong—but always there is redemption. Imagined the shipwrecked lovechild of Karen Dalton and Nick Cave singing up from a watery grave, or Jesus and Mary hanging out at night, harmonizing under bright stars in the desert. Like any good ministry, Pale Hoarse has built a devoted following that is expanding gracefully, gleefully, with each show they play. This is music for lovers, for sinners, for makers and seers. It’s tortured and tainted, it’s gorgeous and glorious.”

Pale Hoarse will be playing Bottom of the Hill, Sept 7th
